Go Big or Stay Home. I didn’t invent the phrase. I first heard it used by Joe Gormley, an old college buddy and since then I’ve come across it hundreds of times in many different settings.

To be honest, I can’t say that I’ve always lived up to the title.  All the same, the words remain an inspiration, sort of a damm the torpedoes view of life that I admire.

I like the sense of purpose and movement conveyed in Go Big.  It speaks to laying it on the line, holding nothing back.  It dares you to act, to take the chance, to say what you feel and do what you say.  It leaves no room for a mushy middle, no safe center or waiting to see which way the wind is blowing before you commit.  You can’t scheme your way out of Go Big or Stay Home.  It’s your call.  You’re either in or you’re out.

Going big involves taking real risks, knowing you aren’t going to make it every time and understanding how much it hurts when you don’t.  But it’s also about having faith in yourself and an optimism about the future.

I decided to use this title after watching  kids starting out for their first day of school.  Kids understand what Go Big means.  They get up in the morning and gave life everything they have because they believe anything is possible….and they’re right.

We are granted a finite amount of time on this planet.  Why be timid when we can exercise the all the greatness that each of us are born with.

Go Big!
